Introduction to Design Thinking for Educators

This workshop will focus on ways to infuse design thinking within a school’s instructional program, starting with the basics of design thinking: terminology, frameworks, exercises, & mindsets. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a rapid, full lap of the design thinking process including empathy interviews, fast-paced ideation, and low-res prototyping. Participants will: 1) Gain an introductory understanding of the design thinking process. 2) Recognize the value of design thinking as a framework to build deeper learning capacity and agency in their students. 3) Explore design thinking mindsets and how they can be used in everyday classroom experiences.

Reimagine Learning Spaces through Design Thinking

How might we design learning spaces to spark curiosity, creativity, student-agency, and innovation? In this interactive workshop, participants will use the human-centered lens of design thinking to reimagine and redesign learning spaces that will nurture these mindsets and behaviors in their students (and themselves). Using the tools learned in the session, participants will have the opportunity to examine, iterate, and play around with their own classrooms and learning spaces to design a more intentional, positive space that will have a lasting impact on students and learning.

 A Deeper Dive into Design Thinking for Educators

This is an immersive two-day design thinking experience from start to finish. Participants will focus on ways to infuse design thinking within a school’s instructional program gaining an understanding of common language, frameworks, exercises, and mindsets. Throughout the two days, participants will step out of their comfort zones, build their creative confidence, and experience deeper dives into design thinking mindsets and challenges to strengthen their own creativity and innovative practice, mindsets, and abilities. Leave this workshop with a solid understanding of design thinking both in theory and practice, along with the very best resources available to continue learning.

Participants will get comfortable working outside their comfort zones while we bravely build-to-learn, “failing forward” and problem-solve together. Going Deeper with Design Thinking Build on the knowledge gained in Webinar 1 by diving deeper into mindsets by focusing on the behaviors and attitudes of a design thinker. Bias towards action, human-centered, and being mindful of the process are just a few of the mindsets participants will put into practice through exercises, provocations, and reflections. How are your current mindsets creating roadblocks within your classroom? How can DT mindsets impact the learning outcomes of your students?

Webinar 3:

Design Thinking K-12 Best Practices Conclude the series by discussing, exploring and evaluating three case studies of established, successful and innovative schools that have embraced design thinking systematically and with intention. Together, we will identify common features, approaches, and scalability of each school’s design thinking initiatives where participants will create mind maps to brainstorm a 30,000 feet snapshot of goals, actions, and what-ifs to infuse design thinking into their school.
